Junior Infants Summer Update 2026

Junior Infants have had a fantastic term at school and a wonderful year overall. The children have worked very hard and have made excellent progress across all areas of the curriculum.

One of the highlights of the term was our school tour to the Woodlands, where the children had a fantastic day enjoying lots of outdoor activities. They took part in exciting games, visited the pet farm, completed treasure hunts, and had great fun exploring the beautiful surroundings. Another special highlight was our Teddy Bear Picnic, where the children brought along their favourite teddy bears and enjoyed a fun-filled picnic together.

Through play and oral language activities, the children explored a variety of themes including The Jungle, The Pet Shop, The Supermarket, and The Seaside. These themes provided wonderful opportunities for learning, creativity, communication, and imaginative play.

In Literacy, the children are doing great work with their sounds and have thoroughly enjoyed participating in literacy stations. They have been busy reading books, building words using magnetic letters, and creating their own sentences. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and independence grow throughout the year.

The children have also worked very hard at Irish and are picking up lots of new words and phrases. We are very proud of their enthusiasm and progress in using Gaeilge.

In Maths, the children learned about money by sorting coins and explored a range of other topics including pattern, time, and capacity. They approached all activities with great enthusiasm and curiosity.

We recently completed the Stay Safe Programme in SPHE. This programme provides children with important life skills and lessons, helping them to stay safe and make good choices. The children engaged very well with the programme and learned many valuable skills.

In PE, the children successfully completed the PAWS Aquatic Programme, developing their water safety awareness and learning important aquatic skills.

Junior Infants have had a fantastic year filled with learning, fun, and friendship. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved. A special thank you to SNA Catherine for all of her help and support throughout the year.

We wish all of our Junior Infants and their families a happy, safe, and enjoyable summer break.
