As the school year winds down, we’ve been looking back on what’s been a brilliant final term in 5th and 6th class — full of fun, adventure, and great memories.
One of the biggest highlights was definitely our trip to Jamie Knox Surf School and Water Sports in Castlegregory. The children had a ball catching the waves and bouncing around on the trampolines out on the water. The sun shone, the laughs were endless, and to top it all off, we made a stop at McDonald’s on the way home — a well-earned treat after a busy day at the beach!
Back in the classroom, we finished reading our novel Wonder, which everyone really enjoyed. It led to brilliant conversations about kindness, friendship, and being brave, and it quickly became a class favourite. There was plenty of creativity this term too. The children wrote fantastic, funny stories imagining a day in the life of a schoolbag — with all the bumps, bruises and adventures a bag might go through in a day! They also wrote instructions on how to plant a sunflower seed, planted their own, and made lovely artwork to go with them.
We wrapped up our swimming lessons in UL this term too, with lots of progress made and plenty of fun in the pool. Another first for us was having Spanish lessons, where the children learned new words, picked up a few phrases and got a little flavour of Spanish culture.
A huge thank you to Linda, our brilliant SNA, for all her kindness and support in the classroom throughout the year —she made a big difference to so many of our days.
The last few weeks have been packed with sport and fun. We held our annual Kelly Cup and O’Donoghue Cup hurling and football competitions, and this year, for the very first time, we added a soccer blitz — the St. Brigid’s Cup. It was Fr. Wrenn’s great idea, and what a success it was! There were brilliant games, great skills, and a fantastic atmosphere all day. It’s definitely one we’ll be keeping on the calendar. We also had our Marathon Relay last week, which is always one of the best days of the year — loads of running, cheering, and good fun. The excitement didn’t stop there, as we finished off with an epic tug of war, where 5th class just about edged out 6th class in a hard-fought battle!
It’s been a fantastic year in 5th and 6th class, I have really enjoyed teaching you all. Bain taitneamh as do laethanta saoire. Go raibh mile maith agaibh go léir as bhur dtacaíocht i mbliana. Slán go fóill!
