Second Class Easter Update

Fáilte ar ais go Rang a Dó. What a busy 2nd term we have had!

It has been a very exciting time for 2nd class as we celebrated the Sacrament of First Confession on 7th February. We worked very hard on the lead up to our Confession learning our songs, prayers and creating beautiful artwork. We can’t wait to celebrate our First Holy Communion on the 20th May. It will be a very special day.

2ndclass love to read and really enjoyed World Book Day. We dressed up as our favourite book characters, took part in a book title emoji quiz and created our own book readers which were very cute. We love to relax and listen to stories on Vooks.com and Storyline Online. We love to cosy up in the reading corner and enjoy a good book during DEAR time. We have also been working on narrative writing this term and have written our own stories.

Seachtain na Gaeilge was lots of fun. We tried our best to use Gaeilge both in class and on the yard and were awarded with ‘Gaeilgeoir an Lae’ certificates and a special badge for our super efforts. We enjoyed playing Biongó, practising new vocabulary and singing Coldplay’s ‘Sky Full of Stars’ as Gaeilge. We learned all about the fascinating life of St. Patrick and danced the Siege of Ennis.

2ndclass are taking part in the Picker Pals programme this term. We were very excited when we looked through the special Picker Pals pack which contained pickers, gloves, Hi Vis jackets and litter bags as well as a reader and Funbook. In turn, we take home the Picker Pack and go on litter picking adventures with our families in our local area. We love sharing photos and telling the class about our adventures. So far, we have collected 15 bags of rubbish. Wow!

We have worked very hard on Maths. We learned about fractions, time and are excellent at recalling addition and subtraction tables. We also had great fun during Engineer’s Week. We learned about the work of engineers, had a go at the Egg Drop Challenge and created our own marble run.

In SESE, we learned about China and made our own mini books that included all we’d learned about the country; famous landmarks, food, animals and so much more. We listened to Chinese music and songs and heard traditional instruments being played. We also examined our Solar System, learned the names of the planets and facts about each. We looked at the history of Space travel. We worked on group projects based on our research and were so proud of the amazing results.

2ndclass are very artistic. We have created some lovely artwork this term. Beautiful lanterns and dragons to celebrate the Chinese New Year, St Brigid’s Day crosses, St. Patricks’ Day rainbow twirlers and very cute Easter decorations.

Check back in with us soon.

Happy Easter to you all from Rang a Dó! 😊🐰
