Congratulations!

Congratulations to our talented pupils Gavin and Samuel! Samuel recently competed in the Scottish Irish dancing championship and came in 1st Place in his U10 solo category! Gavin plays with Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan Bord na nÓg gaa club and his team won their Memorial Day tournament. Well done to both boys and we look forward to seeing them continue to excel in their chosen sports.

Skip Hop

We were delighted to welcome back Lee from Skip Hop for a fun filled day of skipping in Kilcornan! Lee travelled all the way from England to coach the boys and girls in skipping and skipping techniques. He began with Juniors and worked on basic skills such as holding the skipping rope correctly, skipping, partner skipping and group skipping. Lee then moved onto skipping using double dutch ropes, speed skipping, partner skipping and skipping challenges with the older classes. The day culminated with a skipping demonstration for all classes and parents in the community hall. Thank you to all parents who attended and a big thank you to our expert instructor Lee. We look forward to seeing him again next year!

Please see the Gallery for more pictures of the day!

Kelly and O'Donoghue Cup Finals 2019

The annual Kelly and O' Donoghue Cup tournaments took place this month. As always, the enthusiasm from pupils was infectious! Captains diligently set out their teams and encouraged them to perform to their very best. They did not disappoint! We are so proud of how pupils conducted themselves on the pitch and showed respect to each other, the referee and the opposing teams. The skill on display was at a very high level and we look forward to seeing some of our pupils going on to represent their county in their respective sports! A big thank you to Johnny Dunne for helping to coach the pupils and for refereeing all the matches for us! We are so lucky to have great community members willing to give up their time to help the school. Congratulations to football captains Miichaela and Tyrique and hurling captains Rory and Katie on their wins. We are very grateful also to the O' Donoghue and Kelly families for attending and presenting the cups!

Fifth and Sixth Class Easter Update

Happy Easter! What an eventful term this one has been! Everyone has had a great term.

The boys took part in the FAI soccer blitz in Corbally. They played several matches and everyone had a great day out.

Both boys and girls participated in the INTO mini 7's in Newcastle West.We showed great team work and spirit.

In SESE , we completed projects on topics that were of interest of us.Some of us chose our favourite people from the past, while others made volcanoes and soap worms! Amy and Maedbh explained  the science behind baking and brought us some delicious baked treats!

We also worked together in groups to complete projects on the Solar System. Each group informed the class on interesting facts about their chosen planet. We also made papier mache planets.

This year we have been working on the LEAF( Learning about forests)project. This term we completed a school based workshop learning about our natural environment. We learned about food chains and planted bare root trees in our school garden. Luckily, we had a sunny day to enjoy our activities outside! Rachel from An Taisce shared her wisdom with us about the importance of our forests and trees.

As part of our Confirmation year, we decided to donate to the Butterfly Club in Rathkeale. This club is a social club for children and teenagers with special needs. This totally voluntary club also provides respite to the parents of these children.  Margaret and Julia visited us for the cheque presentation and told us about the amazing work the club is doing.
