We have had another busy term here in Senior Infants. Our classroom has been a hive of activity since Christmas as we have been learning lots through SESE and incorporating what we have learned into our Writing, Art and Gaeilge lessons. Our reading in Senior is improving all the time. Little and often is the key to be coming a fluent reader! We have one term left in Seniors before we head to 1stclass, where being a fluent reader will really help us! Lots of people have complimented the beautiful displays we have created in our classroom! It has been a great team effort, well done everyone!
This term we learned all about Emperor Penguins and what life is like in Antarctica for the scientist who spend time there. We learned about dolphins and what makes us mammals. We spent time dressing up in costumes to act out different jobs – we had firemen and women, doctors and nurses to name a few. We examined pictures and footage of old and new ways of ploughing. We looked a told and new bikes, cars and torches. We planted seeds and watched them grow. Mr. Walsh has built a new raised flower bed where I seedlings will continue to thrive.
We have enjoyed a variety of special days and special weeks this term. We loved welcoming our grandparents to our classroom for Grandparents’ Day and getting to perform a song for them in the hall. They loved the art work we had on display for them too.
We took part in the TLC clean up. Senior Infants were in charge of the yard and the grass at the front of the school. We picked up lots of litter that got trapped in the hedge and debris from leaves and branches. TLC provided the school with pickers, gloves and high-vis jackets to complete the job. The yard was spotless when our job was done!
For Wellness Week it was a real treat to get to bring in our cosy blankets and pillows for meditation time and we enjoyed bringing in our books from home for DEAR time that week too. On Pancake Tuesday the 6th Class treated us to some delicious pancakes and other treats - they were so yummy!
Seachtain na Gaeilge was a busy week at school. We loved making an extra effort with our cúpla focal and had so much fun learning ‘Shoe the Donkey’ which we danced out in the yard. We finished the week by dressing up on Friday for Lá Glas.
We are enjoying completing our Skip around Europe challenges. Each skip is worth 1km.We add up all our skips to try to complete our journey. We are on our way to London!
We have really enjoyed the lead up to Easter. We have been busy making Easter baskets in Art with a Easter Bunny holding them; reading and learning all about Holy Week and we even got to enjoy an Easter Egg hunt outside in the glorious sunshine. We hope everyone has a lovely Easter. Cáisc Shona Daoibh!
