We’ve started learning Irish, and the boys and girls have picked up lots of new words and phrases. We love welcoming visitors to our room with “Fáilte romhat isteach” and never forget to remind each other to “Dún an doras” when leaving the classroom! ✨
In Maths, we explored 2D and 3D shapes, using plenty of hands-on materials to help us understand these new concepts. We also did lots of matching activities, where we practised pairing objects and pictures and explored the idea of matching in fun and playful ways. 🔺🔵
In PE, we have been using the athletics equipment from UL and took part in athletics stations with the help of some of the sixth class boys. We’ve been practising “On your marks, get set, go!” and have loved taking part in races and learning how to move our bodies in new ways. 🏃♀️🏅
Playtime has been a big highlight! In September, we explored the themes "School" and "A Visit to the Doctor", and in October, we dove into "Autumn" and "Halloween". 🍂🎃 Through these themes, we learned lots of new vocabulary and had the chance to use it during our play activities.
We’ve also been working very hard on our sounds and have even started blending them to make new words using magnetic letters — how exciting! 🔤✨
October also brought National Tree Day, where we joined the Green Schools Committee to plant two pine trees on the school grounds — what a special day! 🌲💚
We also celebrated Jersey Day, where everyone wore a mix of club, national, and international jerseys to school — it was great fun seeing all the different colours and teams! 🏐⚽🏉
Each evening before home time, we love sitting on our cushions and listening to Ms. Ruddle read us a story — the perfect way to end our busy day. 📚💖
It truly has been a wonderful and busy first term for Junior Infants. A huge thank you to Catherine for all her help and support in our room. We can’t wait to see what exciting adventures the next term will bring! 🌟👏
