Third Class October Midterm Update

Welcome to Rang a 3! What an enjoyable, productive first term we have had. The children have settled back in and are happy to be back playing with their friends and everyone has made a super effort in all subject areas.

In Literacy, we were learning how to write a recount story. We planned, drafted, wrote, and published a story about a special day in our lives. The class enjoyed listening to excellent pieces about communions, birthday parties and day trips. There has been an autumnal vibe in third class the past few weeks. We love reciting ‘An Autumn Poem’ by Elsie N. Bradyand adding bits and pieces to our ‘Autumnal Treasures’ table. Thank you to all the children for finding colourful leaves, brown conkers, and shiny acorns.Well done Gemma for finding a bird’s nest. Thank you Henry and Amelia for the wonderful plants also. Things are getting spooky in rang a trí. A poem ‘The Witch’ by Jack Prelutsky linked into a directed art drawing of a frightening wicked witch casting evils spells on her broomstick. We played dictionary races to look up the key vocabulary from the poem.

In Art, the children used a printing technique to design some beautiful autumn leaves. See the photos of our wonderful work! Internation Dot Day Art was inspired by listening to the audio book ‘The Dot’by Peter H. Reynolds. Imagination and creativity flowed for this lesson! We learned how to sketch our self portraits while also learning about lines of symmetry. It was a tricky lesson but they turned out amazing.

Maths lessons have been full of hands on learning and interactive games this term. We practice our multiplication tables daily in class by playing Hit the Button/King and Queen of the tables and Buzz.We all took part in fun Maths week activities such as a class quiz, a scavenger hunt and building a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows. Well done to all the groups for working collaboratively to design and build sturdy structures. It was also super fun creating our own individual tangram animals and then sticking them together, so it became a while class tangram jigsaw! 3rd class now know the difference between regular and irregular shapes and have been practicing place value, addition, and subtraction.

In Gaeilge, we learned vocabulary about Mé Féin, An Fómhar and Oíche Shamhna. We played bingo, Cluiche Kim, Deir Ó Ghrádaigh and Feicim le mo shúílín. We also learned some lovely new poems and songs- Shiúil Mé, Mo Mhála Scoile, Dilín O Deamhas, An Damhán Alla. The children are always complimented by guests who come into our room as they love to greet everyone with ‘Dia Duit’ and ‘Conas atá tú?’. Great job Josh on the huge effort you make to greet people!

We have a skilled and talented group of children in Rang a trí. Brendan and Dante loved showing a catapult they designed and made to the class. Very Cool! Lexi has been overseeing the growth of a bulb in our classroom. We are monitoring its progress daily. She likes to keep us guessing as to what flower it will be.

In History, we learned all about the Stone Age and how people lived in Ireland during that time. We examined some artefacts and watched an interesting video. The children had a quiz at the end to test their knowledge!

We have enjoyed using the fabulous athletics equipment which we received from the Limerick Sports Partnership. The children have been practicing their running, jumping, throwing, and catching in the Astro Turf.

Wednesdays are very busy days. 3rd class can now count to 10, spell out their names and show their favourite hobbies through sign language. Well done everyone! We have learned how to clap beats to cool songs with Aoife and Nora from Music Generation. This will help learning our Peace Prom songs for the concert in UL in January which we are very excited for.

Thank you to our SNA Marian who has been super helpful all term. We love having her in the classroom. We are really looking forward to next term already!

Have an amazing Halloween everyone! Your costumes will be super!
