Third Class Christmas Update

Happy Christmas from Rang a Trí!

Our Christmas holidays are just around the corner and we deserve a break after working so hard all term.

We spent several weeks rehearsing for our Christmas Show and what a night we had! Excitement levels were at an all time high as we prepared to perform for our friends and families. We really enjoyed performing on stage and are even more excited for our Peace Proms performance in January now. We will have to work hard after the Christmas holidays to learn the lyrics and actions to a few more songs.

In December, we completed a study on Emperor Penguins and Antarctica which linked into lots of subject areas. We learned about Antarctica in Geography lessons, Emperor Penguins in Science, we read and discussed a story called ‘The Emperor’s Egg’ in English and we watched a documentary called ‘March of the Penguins’ and took notes of interesting facts and information. We then completed detailed fact-files to show off everything we had learned and accompanied our writing with lovely paintings and artwork of the Emperor Penguins on the ice in Antarctica. We had lots of fun with this theme.

Sticking with the winter theme, we also read about Wilson Bentley, The Snowflake Man. We got into the Christmas spirit by writing Christmas Senses Poems which we shared with our classmates. Mrs. Meade was very impressed with our poetry writing skills. We made some beautiful artwork including Hattifant’s Christmas Tree cones and Rudolph Christmas cards. We even designed special Christmas cards which were delivered to the residents in Askeaton Nursing home to wish them a safe and happy Christmas.

We have been busy learning our multiplication tables all term and work hard daily practicing them in class. We particularly enjoy playing Tables Games like ‘Hit the Button’ and ‘King/Queen of the Tables’. Knowing our Times Tables well has really helped with our maths work in Fractions and Problem Solving this month.

We commenced a PE Athletics Programme called ‘Fit for Class’ which we will complete in the New Year. The program is helping to work on developing important skills such as running, jumping, throwing, agility and co-ordination to name but a few. We have been tracking our progress on our Class Chart and will receive Certificates of Completion when we have completed all the activities and skills.

We were lucky enough to get to go on two school trips this month. Firstly, we were invited to watch ‘Thank You for The Music’ in L.I.T which was performed by students in Pallaskenry secondary school. We spotted lots of past pupils on stage. We even caught a glimpse of Nicky Quaid while we were waiting to enter the theatre. We also got to attend the Panto in UL to see Peter Pan. It was an excellent day out for the whole school…{Oh yes it was!!! J} and a lovely way to finish up for the Christmas holidays.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable Christmas and a Happy New Year!
