Third Class Mid-Term Update

Welcome to the 3rd class page!

We have had a great first term back reuniting with our friends, learning lots of new things and enjoying fun activities. We were delighted to give a special welcome to Michaela who joined our class this September. Michaela is settling in well and everyone is thrilled to have another friend in the class.

Everyone has been working hard at their school work this term. The boys and girls enjoy hands-on maths lessons, interactive games as Gaeilge and engaging in reading, writing and poetry lessons in Literacy. We have weekly stations for Numeracy and Literacy which are a great opportunity to work with our friends and teachers in smaller groups. We created some wonderful pieces in art over the last few weeks and have enjoyed practicing our athletic skills in PE lessons. We began to learn lyrics for songs which we will perform in UL in January as part of Peace Proms. This will be a very memorable event which we are really looking forward to.

One of the highlights from Term 1 was the project work we engaged in, to design and create a Bird Feeder. Everyone put in a tremendous effort and came up with such creative designs. We had everything from the use of recyclable materials, cutting and gluing to carpentry, welding and even 3D printing involved in our creations. We linked our project work to explanation writing in Literacy, drawing sketches of our designs for art, learning about Irish birds in SESE and working on our oral presentation skills. Mrs. Meade decided we needed to host an exhibition to show off our projects to the rest of the pupils and teachers in school. Needless to say, everyone was very impressed. The birds in Kilcornan are in for a treat!  (Checkout the pictures of all our Bird Feeders in our gallery).

We have a skilled and talented bunch of pupils in our class and we encourage each other to share our strengths with others. We were delighted when Michael brought in the trophy that he won for ABK United ‘Goalie of the Season’. We were equally interested when Noah brought in his knitting needles and gave us a demo on how to knit and showed us what he was working on. Alison engrossed us with her creative writing skills on The Fianna and Ellie demonstrated her artistic skills when she brought in a beautiful picture of dogs that she created. John and Gemma fascinated us with their origami skills, with John making paper ducks and Gemma making a paper octopus. Denis created not one, but two comic books which he brought in to show off his imaginative skills. During our Skip-Hop day, Harry, Michaela, Gemma and Jack were selected from our class to perform their skipping skills and tricks in front of the school.

Well done everyone!

We are rewarded for our hard work on Fridays during Golden Time. We have enjoyed playing card games and board games with our classmates, having extra PE and playtime and sipping hot chocolate and marshmallow. We also made Halloween pictures with Tangrams and of course we ended the term with a Halloween Dress-Up day and party where we ate treats and watched some of the Addams’ Family movie.
