Third Class Mid Term Update

Welcome to Rang a 3!

What a fantastic first term Third Class have had. It is great to be back together with our friends in class and to have settled into the new school year so well.

Every morning, we start with our riddle of the day. We have had lots of fun solving riddles and challenging our classmates and teacher with riddles of our own. This gives us a chance to put on our thinking hats and sets us up for lots of learning throughout the day.

On the 25th of September we celebrated our First Holy Communion Day at St. John the Baptist Church in Kilcornan. Thanks to Ms. Moloney, Fr. Donworth and the support of their parents the children were all very well prepared for their special day. A big thank you also to Mrs. Wixted who played music and sang at the church to make the mass extra special.

In Literacy, we were learning how to write a recount story. We planned, drafted, wrote, and published a story about our First Holy Communion Day. We had great fun writing about our special day and will have that story to look back on in future.

In Maths, we have been revising place value, addition, and subtraction. We have all been working hard and can now add and subtract very big numbers! We also have been learning about 2-D shapes and engaged in lots of hands-on activities throughout the term. We all took part in Maths week activities such as building a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows and creating tangram animals.

In Gaeilge, we learned vocabulary about An Fómhar and Oíche Shamhna. We played Oíche Shamhna bingo, Cluiche Kim and practised chatting as Gaeilge with our partner. We also learned some lovely new poems called Oíche Shamhna, Ruairí Rón agus Duileoga Deasa.

In SESE, we were learning about our community. We learned about different buildings and ruins in Kilcornan as well as the native trees found in our area. It was great to share stories about ourcommunity and learn new things from one another. We set up a bord dúlra together with beautiful pieces of nature that we found at home and in Curraghchase. We even had a peacock feather from Stonehall Farm! We created mini pumpkins by painting our conkers and designing them with googly eyes and unique features!

In PE, we have been learning a new game named Rounders! We practised our under-arm throw, over arm throw and batting skills together. Now we can play with batters and fielders on the pitch and love playing with one another. Ms. McMorrow always encourages fair play and awards a sportsman and sportswoman of the day to the people who were promoting team spirit by being helpful, kind and a great teammate during the game.

We hope you all have a lovely Mid-Term break and be sure to check back in with us again for more updates.
