From September to October, the pupils have shown great enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity across all subjects. Here’s a little glimpse into what we’ve been up to so far:
Maths has been full of hands-on learning and fun this term! The children have been engaging enthusiastically with the new Primary Maths Curriculum, exploring data, multiplication, and place value, and are now working on 2D shapes.
During our Data topic, pupils surveyed their favourite sports, collected tally marks, and created colourful bar charts to display their results.
Our daily games — Buzz, Hit the Button, and King and Queen— have made times tables practice lively and enjoyable.
The introduction of Maths Journals has encouraged pupils to show their learning creatively, and Maths Week was a huge success, with 3rd and 4th Class completing a Maths Trail and joining an online Maths Zoom Quiz!
In PE, our focus has been on athletics. The children have taken part in a range of fun and energetic activities such as running, relay races, jumping, throwing, and station work. Team spirit, co operation, and encouragement have been at the heart of every session. We’ve seen fantastic effort and improvement from everyone!
Our literacy lessons have been full of imagination and expression. The pupils produced wonderful recount writing pieces such as ‘A special day in my life’ and truly let their creativity shine with their Haunted House stories, inspired by the mysterious Room 67!Their spooky tales were full of suspense, humour, and brilliant vocabulary.
We also enjoyed learning and reciting “The Witch” by Jack Prelutsky. The children illustrated their own versions of a cailleach ghránna (ugly witch), bringing their artistic flair into their literacy work.
Tá an-chuid Gaeilge foghlamtha againn ó thúsna bliana!
The pupils have been working hard on daily comhrá (conversation practice) and are growing in confidence every day. We practice writing our nuacht every Monday, progressing with new foclóir, frásaí and briathra every week. With Oíche Shamhna fast approaching, our classroom has been filled with the sounds of amhráin agus dánta (songs and poems) as the children prepare for the Halloween season. Maith sibh, a pháistí!
To celebrate Space Week, our budding engineers took on a thrilling STEM challenge — designing and building their own Lunar Lander Modules. The creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork displayed were truly out of this world! We watched the footage of Neil Armstrongs Moon landing to inspire our creativity. 3rd and 4th class know the order of the planets in our Solar System off by heart.
Each morning, the class enjoys fun and engaging starter activities such as “Letter Detective” and “Don’t Mention It”, which help sharpen thinking skills and set a positive tone for the day ahead.
In History, 3rd and 4th Class travelled back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Celts. The children learned all about ringforts, crannógs, clothing, food, culture, and traditions, gaining a wonderful insight into how people lived long ago. They especially enjoyed comparing Celtic life to our own lives today, discovering both the similarities and differences between the past and the present.
We also learned about the origins of Oíche Shamhna, which began as the ancient Celtic festival An Samhain. This sparked great discussion and excitement as we connected our modern Halloween celebrations to this historical tradition. To round off our topic, the pupils used laptops to take part in an interactive Kahoot quiz, testing their new-found knowledge of the Celts. It was a fantastic way to revise what we had learned — full of fun, teamwork, and plenty of healthy competition!
Our classroom has been bursting with creativity this term! The children created beautiful autumnal silhouette tree art after learning all about the different types of trees we see around us. Their use of colour and shape captured the beauty of the changing season wonderfully. We’ve also been busy building our Autumn Nature Table, filled with leaves, conkers, acorns, and berries collected by the pupils. It has brought a lovely seasonal touch to our room and helped everyone appreciate the world around us.
More recently, the children let their imaginations run wild as they painted spooky Haunted Houses, taking inspiration from Vincent van Gogh’s expressive art style. The results were fantastic —full of swirling skies, bold colours, and plenty of Halloween spirit!
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful SNA, Karina, for her continued support, kindness, and encouragement. She plays an important role in helping our pupils shine every day.
It’s been a fantastic first half-term in 3rd and 4th Class. We’re so proud of all the pupils for their hard work, enthusiasm, and positivity. We can’t wait to see what exciting learning adventures await after the midterm break!
