4th & 5th Class Christmas update

Nollaig Shona daoibh go léir! What a busy term this has been!

In English, we have been working on our Persuasive Writing. We took part in our very own Dragon’s Den and used persuasive language to convince the class to buy our cereal. Each day we learn a new ‘Power Word’ and it’s exciting when a power word is spotted in a text we are reading as points can be earned for groups!

In Maths, we came up with our very own Christmas Dinner shopping list. We researched the prices of all our favourite Christmas foods on Tesco online. The aim was to compile the most delicious three course meal, while staying within budget!

In Gaeilge, we learned a new poem ‘Seáinín Bán’ off by heart and had fun reciting it together as a class. We have been busy exploring the themes of ‘Bia’ and ‘An Nollaig’ this term, listening to the excellent stories in Bua na Cainte and playing the interactive whiteboard games.

We designed our very own Class Advent Calendar. Check it out below! We got lots of nice treats and took part in fun, festive activities throughout the month of December!

The Green School theme assigned to our class this year was ‘Biodiversity’. We used recyclable milk and juice cartons to design our veryown birdfeeders. We learned that bird feeders help to reduce birds stress, give them strength needed for migration and help them to survive the harsh winter.

Our class have been lucky enough to use laptops this term. In History, we learned all about the Great Irish Famine and afterwards we were given a topic based on this theme to research in pairs. Have a look at the photos of our finished whole class project!

We love Art in 4th and 5th Class. On pyjama day, we drew pop up ‘munching reindeers’ and the following week, we drew a beautiful winter village scene. Also, take a look at our Christmas Tree Art inspired by the poem ‘A Little Peasant Girl’s Christmas Morning’ by SH Bradford.

Have a wonderful, safe Christmas and we look forward to welcoming all of the children back to school in the New Year!
