Céad mile fáilte! A big warm welcome back to everyone in 2nd and 3rd class !

Second Class
Third Class

The boys and girls had lots to talk about last week catching up with friends, meeting their new teacher and hearing about everyone’s adventures and activities from the Summer holidays. The pupils have been busy settling in and learning about our new class rules and routines. These are very important as they help our class run smoothly and ensure everyone is working to the best of their ability. Hopefully there will be lots of “Super Bee-haviour” to reward.

We are really looking forward to the school year ahead and all the wonderful things we are going to learn. We have already had some fun in Science investigating and exploring the school grounds for natural materials. We have made ‘Student Selfies’ in English, have entered a competition in Art and we are learning a new song called ‘We’re going to be friends’ by the White Stripes. Check out the cool animated video here:

This week we began our ‘Word of the Day’ activity to help the boys and girls extend their vocabulary. The pupils are encouraged to use these new words in their written and spoken English. Don’t be surprised if you hear some ‘fancy’ words from them! The pupils have also been busy improving their handwriting skills in their workbooks as well as their creative writing skills in their ‘Free Writing’ copy.

We have many other great things to look forward to over the next few months including station teaching in numeracy and literacy, team-teaching with Ms. Mann and Mrs. Wixted, tin whistle lessons, GAA skills with Paddy and a guest speaker from GOAL who will be visiting our class in October.  And of course, this is a particularly special year for the boys and girls in 2nd class who will be making their First Holy Communion. We have plenty of work to do in preparation for this sacrament which will get under way soon.

Check back regularly for updates and pictures.
